White Jeans
There was a time when you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing white pants after Labor Day or before Memorial Day. White was a summer color and black and other dark colors were reserved for autumn and winter. Fashion has pulled out all the stops and wearing whatever you want, whenever you want is fair game. Of course there are still some fashion taboos that will keep you from formal, black tie affairs; however, wearing white pants in the wrong season is not one of them.
If you browse through current magazines you will see celebrities wearing white pants any time of the year. Recently People Magazine did a spread on John Travolta in mid September wearing mens white pants. Note that this is after Labor Day! In the same issue, Gwen Stefani is wearing white pants, Capri length on her tour in Singapore. An online website dedicated to candid shots of celebrities, celebritysnap dot com has photos of Megan Fox where she was spotted at LAX wearing black top white pants in May, which is before Memorial Day. During that same month celebritysnap caught Rihanna also in white pants.
Another trend that is in the process of changing is the width of the pants. Over the past decade or so, pants were worn loose. In fact, the baggier the better and if they just happened to reveal an excess or skin or underwear it was not big deal. Trends are changing. White skinny jeans are currently hot. The legs are extremely tight while the “butt” may bag out. Also, the waistline is back near the waist and not inches below the naval.
White golf pants are always appropriate for a day at the green; however, white Capri pants are being worn as long as the weather permits. If it is warm enough for comfort, cropped white pants are just fine. There are trendy styles by Horny Toad, Jag Jeans, Liz Gulf and Puma for women. Mens white pants in shorter styles are usually referred to as cargo pants and are just as fashionable year round. Some names to look for in mens white pants year round are Puma, Dockers, IZOD, and Ralph Lauren. They come in cotton, cotton twill, cotton poly blend and linen among other fabrics. Styles range from baggy to the tighter white skinny jeans.
It goes without saying that if white is acceptable attire year round for adults it is also suitable for children as well. Girls and boys white pants are as available and stylish as their adult counterparts. Of course fashions and styles vary with respect to the age of the child, but white can always be found.
Having said all this, if you want to wear white, wear it. If you are inclined to go baggy then remember, it’s your choice. White pants, in whatever style, width or length are acceptable anytime and almost anywhere. I say this tongue in cheek because I have yet to see a bride in white pants whether Capri or boot length, however, I imagine it has been done.
